NDC 10 to 11 digit converter
Paste NDCs in any 10-digit layout, or a column from a spreadsheet, and get the 11-digit 5-4-2 form with and without hyphens. Everything runs in your browser: nothing leaves it.
Converted in your browser: nothing leaves your browser. Paste from a spreadsheet and the column headed NDC (or the one that looks like NDCs) is used. Up to 5,000 at a time.
Results show here as you type: the layout each NDC is written in, its NDC-11 with and without hyphens, or why it can't be converted.
How it works
Pad the short segment with a zero
A 10-digit NDC has one segment shorter than the 11-digit 5-4-2 form. The converter adds a leading zero to that segment, the same rule the healthcare.dev API applies to every NDC it is sent.
| Layout | Example | Rule | NDC-11 |
|---|---|---|---|
| 4-4-2 | 0002-0152-01 | Leading zero on the labeler | 00002-0152-01 |
| 5-3-2 | 50090-417-01 | Leading zero on the product | 50090-0417-01 |
| 5-4-1 | 50090-6417-0 | Leading zero on the package | 50090-6417-00 |
| 5-4-2 | 00002-0152-01 | Already 11 digits | 00002-0152-01 |
The real thing
Look up what each NDC is
The NDC API takes any of these formats and returns the FDA product, every package and the linked RxNorm concepts, refreshed daily from the FDA NDC Directory.

Questions
NDC converter FAQ
- Why can't I convert 10 digits without hyphens?
- Because the same 10 digits can be read three ways. 0002015201 could be 0002-0152-01, 00020-152-01 or 00020-1520-1, and each pads to a different NDC-11. The hyphens say which segment gets the zero, so use the NDC as printed on the label or package.
- Is my data sent anywhere?
- No. The conversion runs in your browser; this page makes no request with what you paste. It also only needs NDCs, so never paste patient information.
- Does the converter check that an NDC exists?
- No. It only reformats. To check an NDC against the FDA NDC Directory and get the product, packages and RxNorm concepts, look it up with the NDC API (free key).
- Will Excel or Google Sheets drop the leading zeros?
- Not from this page. In the CSV download and Copy all, every all-digit value (the 11-digit NDC, and inputs typed without hyphens) is written as a text formula such as ="00002015201", so spreadsheets keep it as text with its leading zeros. The hyphenated 5-4-2 column is text already.
- Which format do claims use?
- Billing (NCPDP pharmacy claims and the NDC on 837 medical claims) uses the 11-digit 5-4-2 form without hyphens. Labels and the FDA NDC Directory use the 10-digit forms.
