The National Drug Code identifies every drug product and package listed with the FDA. NDCs show up in three shapes (4-4-2, 5-3-2, 5-4-1) and an 11-digit billing form, which makes them easy to get wrong.
Send any shape and the API normalizes it, returns the product with every package, and links it to RxNorm concepts so you can group equivalent drugs. Being listed in the NDC Directory does not mean a drug is FDA approved.
